Sad, remembering how much my mum hates me and pretends the abuse we all endured when I was a kid never happened.

Sitting in a public cafe, my mum finally says

“I hope I was always a good mother, I was, wasn’t I?”

[You told everyone but me how much you hated that I was fat]

[You put me on diets from age 11 and told me that my belly was unacceptable at that age]

[You threw me on the floor and kicked me]

[You kicked me out of home at age 16 because you couldn’t handle my depression and had found a new man. I was cramping your style]

[You hid my artwork and things I made for you, and constantly told me how much better than me my siblings were]

[You ignored every interest I had if it wasn’t something you liked]

[You confided in me and made me finally feel like I was worth something to you, until this new man came along and you had someone new to talk to]

[You disowned me more times than i care to admit]

[when I told you how depressed I was and that I was suicidal, you screamed at me that there’s no way I could be under any stress, that I was a fat useless lazy lump and that your life was worse than mine]

[You blamed me for my uncle’s death because I wouldn’t force feed him when he was in palliative care, when you went away on holiday for a week]

[You convinced me that my grandmother hated me, and that there was cause for me to call her and apologise to her for not talking to her at my uncle’s funeral. I sat with her and spoke several times]

[When I confided in you that I’d been molested by a group of teenage boys in a playground at age 4, you shrugged your shoulders and said “it’s in the past”]

[When I was left with no home and had to come back to live with you, you gave me two days to find somewhere new to live. It was by the kindness of my friend’s mother that I wasn’t out on the street]

And this is when people say money actually buy happiness, is not, I believe this man is 1000 times more happy than anyone who has the money. The simply things of life and help to other people even when you don’t have anything, is gratifying, and sometimes we forget this.
